Mini-Adventure session at Big Meadows Lodge

I am happy to finally be sharing Courtney and Jacob’s summer mini-adventure engagement session at Big Meadows Lodge at Shenandoah National Park. I absolutely love Shenandoah National Park. I lived in Maryland for 6 years before moving to Virginia and FINALLY got the chance to visit the mountains. This was a huge moment for me because it showed me that anything that takes you out of your comfort zone and your everyday life is a great escape and should be done often. The views from Black Rock Overlook were incredible! It was so beautiful there, especially with all of the green trees surrounding us on every side as we looked over at this amazing view of Shenandoah River & Big Meadows Lodge in front of us!

This couple loves the mountains, so they wanted to go on a mini adventure while visiting Virginia. They reached out to me and told me their idea of where they wanted to do their engagement session, so I said “Of course!” We met at Big Meadows Lodge and ran up the .02-mile trail to Black Rock Overlook. It was a smaller than most overlooks I tend to go to but there were two rocky areas we could sit on and admire the vastness of the valley below us! The wind helped cool us off too!

Why I am now a lover of Big Meadows Lodge for mini-adventure engagement sessions!

It was one of my favorite sessions because we got to explore the Shenandoah National Park together! It was only about ten minutes from where I live, so why not? We also were able to run across the street from the Big Meadows Store and run and play around in the large open fields that showed all of the amazing mountain views behind them. An area that I have seen and heard of, became such a gorgeous reality for me so happy that Jacob and Courtney were mini adventurers, just like me, that wanted something different and nothing to do with traditional.

Why having a little fun is so important for any photography session.

I love working with couples that are so fun and adventurous! It doesn’t have to be a 10-mile hike to be adventurous with me. I typically prefer to chill at about a 2-mile hike anyway. So, when I get couples who are right in my lane of being a semi-mini- adventurer, oh yes, I am all about it and will help to make sure that your session, elopement or engagement, is perfect and exactly what you want.

There’s never a time when you should sacrifice things that you want, things that make you whole, things that make you happy. having a photographer that knows your style, and life, to help you create the most magical day possible is what you want to look for. I am that photographer to many couples and can be for you as well. Don’t get into the “costing an arm and a leg” photography is the one main aspect of your wedding that you will keep a forever. Make the investment and trust me as your photographer.

BEHIND THE LENS

Hi, I'm Debbie

A self proclaimed badass photographer

No elegant or amazing story to tell here. My life consisted of growing up in the military from the age of 2. Settling in North Carolina, and marrying a Navy Corpsman. Three kids later, and two masters degrees into a career in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis, I decided that it was finally time to pursue a lifelong dream of mine, photography.

I started out as wanting to become a Marine Biologist/Oceanographer, and working for National Geographic, swimming with the sharks! Choices made led me down a different path and led me to where I am today. Sitting here, at the computer, writing a mini novel about my life to you.

I started my business in 2019 realizing as my oldest son graduated high school that I missed photography, I missed the interaction I could have with others, and the different lives I was able to be a part of. So, I did as allo beginner photographers did. I dusted off my only old camera, and started using my friends and family as models. Charge next to nothing for sessions, and was able to purchase mentoring sessions, business courses, posing class, 1:1 workshops, and I have learned so much and have grown tremendously within my skill and knowledge. With the help of amazing photography mentors such as Katelyn James, Alina Thomas, Joy Michelle, Megan MacPhail, India Earl, Anni Graham, Jai Long, Maddie Mae (Adventure Instead), and many more, I have been able to create an experience for my couples that is comfortable, relaxed, and crafted specifically to their style and personality
